What is Neuromuscular Therapy?

Updated: Apr 17

Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) is a specialized form of manual therapy that aims to alleviate muscular pain and dysfunction by identifying trigger points. Trigger points are hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle also known as the "knots", or palpable nodules within the muscle tissue. They can cause pain locally or refer pain to other areas of the body, leading to discomfort and restricted movement.

Neuromuscular or Trigger Point therapy is often used to treat a range of musculoskeletal conditions, such as chronic pain, sports injuries, postural imbalances, repetitive strain injuries, and tension headaches. The goal of NMT is to reduce pain, improve flexibility and range of motion, and enhance overall functional movement patterns.

At Detailed Massage we are certified in Neuromuscular therapy and use it to restore muscular balance, combining it with deep tissue massage, myofascial release, and passive stretching techniques to achieve the best results.
